The UK and European specification Mustang Dark Horse is a different car to the one Ford sells in America. While the US-spec model runs without a Gasoline Particulate Filter and benefits from software tuned for American 93 octane fuel, the EU/UK car arrives with restrictive GPF hardware and factory calibration deliberately softened to pass stringent European drive-by noise and emissions regulations. The result is a car that feels slower, lazier, and less responsive than it has any right to be — and that’s before you consider that UK 99 octane premium fuel is significantly better than what the factory tune is written for.
Our Dark Horse Stage 1 calibration is the definitive software solution for the S650 platform. Developed entirely in-house on our hub dyno using a UK-spec Dark Horse with 100% stock hardware, it is the first and most important step in unlocking what this car is genuinely capable of.

Frequently Asked Questions
What fuel do I need for this tune?
99 RON premium fuel is required — this is what the calibration is optimised for and what delivers the verified power figures above. Running 95 RON or E10 on this tune will reduce performance and could affect reliability. We always recommend 99 RON for all tuned Mustangs regardless of stage.
Will this affect my Ford warranty?
Any ECU calibration may affect your manufacturer’s warranty. This is a consideration for all aftermarket tuning. If warranty retention is a priority we are happy to discuss your situation before you book — get in touch and we will give you an honest answer based on your specific circumstances.
Why does the UK Dark Horse make less power than the US version?
The EU/UK Dark Horse is fitted with Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPFs) which restrict exhaust flow, and the factory software is deliberately softened to pass European drive-by noise and emissions regulations. The US car has neither of these restrictions. Our Stage 1 calibration works within the GPF hardware to recover as much of that lost performance as possible on stock equipment.
How long does the Stage 1 tune take?
The full process including health check, before dyno run, calibration, and after dyno run typically takes one day at our workshop. We will confirm exact timing when you book.
What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 3?
Stage 1 is a software-only calibration on completely stock hardware — no parts required. Stage 3 combines a cold air intake, long tube headers, and a bespoke tune to deliver 530–550 bhp. Stage 1 is the starting point for owners who want improved drivability and response without modifying the car. Stage 3 is for owners ready to commit to a full performance build. Can I have this done remotely?
Yes. Add the remote tuning option at checkout for an additional £400. We will contact you after your order to walk you through the process using the HP Tuners device. Note that the remote option does not include the before and after dyno verification — that is available at our workshop only.
Is this compatible with both the manual and automatic Dark Horse?
Yes. The Stage 1 calibration is compatible with both the 6-speed manual and the automatic transmission variants of the S650 Dark Horse.
Will the tune throw any warning lights or fault codes?
No. The calibration is GPF-safe and developed to work within the factory emissions hardware. Run on 99 RON fuel as specified, the car will operate cleanly without warning lights or fault codes.
